Skin Care

The Science of Skin Care

The Art and Science of Dermatology located in Roanoke, VA is continually researching skin care products and treatments in order to provide you with the highest quality skin care formulations. We are pleased to offer a variety of skin care products, as well as treatment options that are moisturizing, anti-aging and sun blocking. Research continues to show the most effective skin care regimen starts with limiting sun exposure.

After your initial consultation and skin assessment, we will be able to determine which products or treatment plans that will work best for you. Our goal is to help you meet and surpass your skin care goals.

Skin Care Products

We are continually re-evaluating products, and the science therein, in order to provide you with high quality skin care formulations. Our emphasis is on educating you and encouraging you to wear sunscreen and limiting sun exposure first and foremost, along with appropriate moisturization for your particular skin type. Besides sun-protection, using a topical retinoid, such as the scientifically advanced Skin Medica Retinol, is the next most important skin care product, having more legitimate basic science research support than any other non-sunscreen product.

Chemical Peels

A chemical peel is a technique used to improve the appearance of the skin on the face, neck or hands. A chemical solution is applied to the skin that causes it to exfoliate and some of the dead skin layers to eventually peel off. The new, regenerated skin is usually smoother and brighter than the old skin. The new skin is also temporarily more sensitive to the sun. At The Art and Science of Dermatology in Roanoke, VA, we offer Skin Medica’s three distinct levels of superficial chemical peels depending on the desired results. Our Skin Medica chemical peel products include Illuminize Peel, Vitalize Peel and Rejuvenize Peel. Our chemical peels are sure to offer vibrant, more radiant looking skin.

The Eclipse MicroPen Elite is the motorized device used to perform the microneedling procedure in our office. Microneedling is a collagen induction therapy during which a set of multiple tiny sterile needles are used to penetrate up and down into the skin to cause controlled micro-injuries. The wound-healing repair mechanism then ensues to facilitate epidermal turnover and dermal collagen remodeling. This leads to improved skin texture, softening of fine lines, improvement in acne scars, and an overall improved skin appearance.
